What are food grade white mineral oils?
Food grade white mineral oils are severely refined oils derived from petroleum base oils. They are free of aromatic species and paraffin wax, as well as heterocyclic hydrocarbon compounds containing sulfur, oxygen, and nitrogen. Food grade white mineral oils meet the stringent requirements of the U.S. FDA regulations in 21 CFR 172.878. These food-grade lubricants are classified as NSF 3H materials, making them suitable for use in applications where direct contact with food by the oil is likely, and often intended. They are also classified as NSF H1 materials, making them suitable for use in applications where incidental contact of the oil with food can occur. Food grade white mineral oils are often the preferred base fluid for blending NSF H1 lubricants (hydraulic fluids, gear lubricants, etc.), which are suitable for use in food processing equipment lubrication where incidental food contact may occur.
How are food grade white mineral oils used?
Food grade white mineral oils are used as release agents on bakery pans, dough dividers, cutters, knives, trays, grills, pans, hooks, and other food processing equipment.
